James Johnson comes to PCD with a diverse professional background in the private sector, serving as a secondary education instructor, and a dedicated counselor with a deep passion for helping individuals in their unique journeys toward personal healing and reconciliation. He believes in the restorative potential of therapy when also addressing the needs of the whole person – body and soul.
James is a graduate of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School where he earned a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. He practiced at Steeple Counseling located in a Chicago suburb before relocating to the Denver Metro area with his family. James uses an integrative approach to therapy – being spiritually sensitive while clinically informed – incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and family systems therapy, to help his clients work through life transitions, relationship issues (premarital and marriage counseling), Adolescent issues, parenting issues, grief and bereavement, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
As a result of working as an educator, James has a deep appreciation for the challenges facing children and adolescents today. His work in the public and private sectors provides him with a keen understanding of the adversities and demands of life.
James is married and lives with his wife and mother-in-law who are Korean-American, and is familiar with the challenges and blessings of living in a cross-cultural household. In James’s free time, he enjoys reading, chess, hiking, and cycling.
